About a year ago, as I was developing a fairly new Senior Leadership Team at Lutheran Social Services of the South, I became acutely aware that we needed help pulling the team together.  LSSS had grown from a $15 million dollar agency to $85 million.  As a result of this growth and the addition of new staff in leadership roles in the Agency, we needed to define our roles more clearly.  I wanted to fine tune the expectations of my role as President/COO in relationship to the new and existing staff on the team.

We interviewed a number of consultants and executive coaches to determine who would work best with our team members.  It was evident to us immediately that Nancy Oelklaus, Ed. D. was someone who would listen to what our goals were and facilitate us through the process. 

She spent quite a bit of time getting to know each team member and the business of the Agency as well.  Very quickly the team members began to ask Nancy to work deeper into the organization. A number of the evaluative tools she used allowed us to make more intelligent decisions about hiring staff. She came prepared each session with process options and tools to help us get to the issues and develop new ways to approach working with each other and our departmental staff.  She worked with us weekly and always had fresh ideas, direct feedback and listened intently to us as we began to travel toward becoming a cohesive and trusting team.  The work she did with us was not always easy but she remained positive and encouraged us.  She assured us regularly that we were making progress toward our goals. We learned that we could trust the confidentiality of the individual and group sessions and that Nancy would use the information wisely to encourage our forward movement as a team.

Nancy worked with me and the team for about ten months.  As a result of her work with us during that time we felt we were ready to move forward on our own.  Nancy’s ability to provide effective coaching individually and to the team was outstanding.  We recommend her highly as an executive coach.
